5 Ways to De-stress at the Weekend

Bath Pilates Academy | 5 Ways to De-Stress at the Weekend

During a long week at work we look forward to the weekend coming, with plans to relax, unwind and de-stress. But often we spend those two precious days doing chores, running errands, watching mindless television and losing hours to social media. Rather than slowing down, we speed up. Come Monday morning we find that we’ve not truly relaxed at all and the cycle of stress begins again.

Here are some ways to make the most of your weekend by de-stressing:

  1. Pilates

A pilates class will allow you to increase your flexibility, muscle tone, joint mobility, balance and improve your posture. Taking time out for pilates will give you time to relax and renew your essential energies with a complete sense of physical and mental well-being.

Pilates and relaxation practices can help you transform your mind and body, as well as discover new ways to de-stress. At the Bath Pilates Academy, you can experience highly individual teaching and a personal commitment to transforming stress into relief so you can become healthier, happier and less stressed.

  1. Be mindful

Slow down and be in the moment for everything that you do. Take one task at a time, whether it’s eating, gardening or even watching your favourite programme on TV. Focus on what you’re doing – taste the food, smell the flowers and be in the moment to truly appreciate it.

  1. Socialise

Studies have shown that surrounding yourselves with friends and family can help you to de-stress. Taking time to spend with loved ones allows us to laugh, relax and enjoy ourselves.

  1. Manage your time

Instead of getting overwhelmed by your weekend to-do list, break tasks into manageable segments and give yourself an allotted time to complete them. A 15 minute quick tidy up session can do wonders for de-stressing when you’re not surrounded by clutter. Think about what needs to be done and tackle those jobs first.

  1. Unplug

We all know that social media is a great distraction, but seconds can easily become minutes and minutes can become hours and before we know it, we’ve wasted half a day checking emails and social accounts. Try to limit time online at the weekends to as little as possible.
